I’ve changed careers many times and it is possible that I’m not done. I invite you to take an inventory of your career transitions, from childhood dreams to adolescence creative ideas to today. Here is a brief sample of my journey; it was fun to write about it. It turns out that each transformation could build from the previous career:
- As a child I dreamed of being a professional ballerina – that never happened.
- As a teenager, I asked on one of my birthdays for a typewriter, (it’s a portable orange typewriter and I still have it back at my parents’ home) and learned how to type through the QWERTY system. That girl knew that the world as we knew it was about to change with computers and internet, and she also had an intuition that writing was in her future. 😉 I only started publishing my writings about 10 years ago, though.
- I went to engineering school and after graduation I joined my family’s business. Except for the internship while in school, I didn’t work as an engineer a day in my life. Even before graduation I knew that that career wasn’t for me, but I stuck with it to the end.
- I left the family’s business to move to NY and study the MBA in Entrepreneurship Management and after graduation, worked in a start-up retail art gallery. During this time I launched WomenandBiz.com and my “official” writer’s career began.
- The site gave me the opportunity to find a job in non-profit as a director of an SBA Women’s Business Center. I stayed in that career first in the Bronx and then in Brooklyn for eight years. Then, I started doing consulting work and launched my business and self-love coaching services.
- I published my first non-fiction book in 2009.
- My first fairy-tale short story for adults will be published soon.
- Yes, I'm a writer, and I got emotional last year when I visited The Writer's Museum in Scotland.
